US TAFELTENNIS

The US Open

our flagship.

Our open club tournament · late August · Amstelcampushal Amsterdam.

The flagship

One day a year the Amstelcampushal shuts out the world and opens up for pingpong. That’s the Sport Europe US Open: our open club tournament. No membership needed, no level too low or too high. Everyone welcome, from recreational to seasoned.

Tense rallies. Sharp shots. Even sharper jokes. And afterwards bitterballen, a buffet, and a party into the small hours.

How it works

Seeding by Elo rating, not by licence. The tournament committee builds the classes from the entries. Groups first, then knockout. The top two advance.

These days we play singles and doubles, in up to four classes each. Maximum 144 entrants. Once it’s full, it’s full.

The atmosphere

Top-level table tennis on one table, a scrap for pride on the next. Music from the speakers. A bite and a drink in the Amstelcampus Café. Good times at a high level — exactly how US means it.

History

The US Open has been our yearly highlight for decades. A couple of covid years put it on hold, but in 2022 we pulled out all the stops again. Since then it has grown into a full house: 144 fiercely keen players, Elo-seeded groups, and a prize pot that climbed to €200 for the winner of the top class.

We owe the name to Sport Europe, who help make the tournament happen. The rest we owe to everyone who grabs their bat and turns up, year after year.
